Frances B. Carroll, Psy.D.
Frances B. Carroll, Psy.D., earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from University College, London, where she worked within the National Health Service as a child psychologist for 15 years. She is a native of Atlanta and upon her return to Atlanta joined the practice in 2012. She shares the Atlanta Network’s Treatment philosophy which addresses the context in which children live and function, the differing perspectives of those involved with a child, the belief that parents are usually doing the best they can given the situation as they see it, and that people can benefit from a different perspective and concrete practical help in solving problems.
Professional Experience
Dr. Carroll’s experience has been with children and their families and she is passionate about improving family relationships. Dr. Carroll has worked with children with developmental problems (e.g. ADHD, autism and learning disorders), with physical health problems (e.g. Crohn’s disease, diabetes, abdominal pain), with anxiety and depression, and with behavioral problems. She is a member of the Georgia Psychological Association.
Dr. Carroll can help teach your child strategies for managing anger, frustration and anxiety. She can equip parents to understand and reduce negative behaviors, and she can improve family relationships by helping parents work together when they may have conflicting beliefs about parenting. If appropriate, Dr. Carroll can provide home visits and observations in daycare or pre-k to gain a better understanding of the child’s behavior in those settings.
Dr. Carroll is also very experienced in carrying out psychological evaluations of ADHD and learning problems, providing reports that are clearly written and meaningful with information provided about how to understand the child’s difficulties and strengths. The report also provides explanations about how the findings might impact the child’s learning, social functioning and emotional functioning and what parents and teachers can do to help.
